Plagiarism Policy As per UGC Guidelines, India
The International Journal of Multidisciplinary Research is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical publishing practices. By the University Grants Commission (Promotion of Academic Integrity and Prevention of Plagiarism in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations, 2018, the journal has adopted a strict plagiarism policy to ensure originality and authenticity in all published works.
Definition of Plagiarism:
Plagiarism is defined as the act of using someone else's work (ideas, text, data, or other creative expressions) without proper acknowledgment, presenting it as one's own. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Copying text verbatim without quotation marks and citation.
- Paraphrasing content without proper attribution.
- Reusing one's own previously published work (self-plagiarism) without disclosure.
- Submitting manuscripts with substantial similarity to existing publications.
- Permissible Similarity Limit:
As per UGC guidelines, the maximum permissible similarity index for submitted manuscripts is as follows: - Up to 10%: Generally acceptable (with proper citations).
- 10% to 30%: Manuscripts with similarity in this range may be sent back for revision with a request to reduce similarity.
- Above 30%: Manuscripts exceeding 30% similarity (without proper citations) will be rejected outright.
Screening Process:
All submissions to this journal undergo a strict plagiarism check using Turnitin/iThenticate/UGC-approved plagiarism detection tools. Authors must ensure that their work is original and properly cited before submission.
Consequences of Plagiarism:
If plagiarism is detected at any stage (pre- or post-publication), the following actions will be taken:
- Pre-Publication:
- Manuscripts with minor plagiarism (10-30%) will be returned for revision.
- Manuscripts with significant plagiarism (>30%) will be rejected, and the author(s) may be barred from submitting to the journal for a specified period.
- Post-Publication:
- If plagiarism is reported after publication, the paper will be retracted, and a notice will be issued.
- The author(s) and their institution(s) will be notified, and further disciplinary action may be taken as per UGC guidelines.
Author Responsibilities:
Authors must ensure:
- All sources are properly cited.
- Quoted text is enclosed in quotation marks with appropriate attribution.
- Permission is obtained for copyrighted material.
- Self-plagiarism is minimized, and prior works are duly referenced.
Reviewer & Editorial Responsibility:
- Reviewers and editors must report any suspected plagiarism.
- The editorial board reserves the right to take corrective action in cases of plagiarism.
Appeals & Redressal:
- Authors may appeal against plagiarism decisions by providing a detailed explanation. The editorial board will review appeals on a case-by-case basis.
